Project overview

Infrastructure stability and scalability are critical for all companies in the logistics industry. During peak seasons, transaction volumes skyrocket, leading to sudden surges in the required resources. Inability to satisfy these increased workloads can lead to client frustration and loss of business.

For our partner, operating on an unoptimized Microsoft Azure infrastructure with minimal resiliency measures resulted in an unstable system and inability to scale effectively. This, in turn, led to frequent disruptions and routine system outages in cases of higher-than-usual demand.

In 2024, Maxima Consulting spearheaded a comprehensive migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and introduced enterprise-grade resiliency measures, ensuring the logistics provider’s IT systems function seamlessly, even under the heaviest workloads.

Goals and challenges

Our partner, an American logistics company, faced several pressing challenges linked to their existing cloud infrastructure and legacy system. The organization needed a specialized partner to support their modernization efforts and transform their infrastructure for high availability, scalability, and performance.

The company’s legacy system was resource-heavy and excessively complex to maintain on the existing Azure infrastructure, leading to high cloud costs and hindering innovation.

The existing infrastructure was unoptimized and had limited scalability, which resulted in performance bottlenecks and a severe inability to handle the increased transaction volumes during peak periods.

Multiple critical applications lacked redundancy, making the system more vulnerable to outages. Each non-redundant application constituted a single point of failure for the entire system.

Our solution

Maxima Consulting led a multi-phase modernization project, transforming the organization’s infrastructure into a resilient and scalable platform that can easily handle sudden spikes in demand.

Migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Our consultants facilitated the migration of the company’s entire infrastructure, including databases, virtual machines, and critical applications to GCP. The cloud migration was carefully planned and systematically executed to minimize disruption.

Enterprise-grade load balancing

We introduced advanced load-balancing solutions to eliminate single points of failure. Load balancers were implemented for both internal and external traffic, ensuring seamless operations even during peak periods.

Resiliency measures

By redesigning critical applications with redundancy and failover mechanisms, we made sure our partner’s systems could withstand unexpected disruptions.

Project results

The infrastructure overhaul delivered significant business benefits to our partner. It improved the overall stability of the system, facilitated effortless scalability, and laid a foundation for future innovation.

The logistics company experienced unprecedented system uptime during the 2024 peak season, with zero outages reported. The new infrastructure easily scaled to handle increased transaction volumes, enabling the organization to meet client demands without performance issues.

Moreover, the GCP migration laid the foundation for our partner’s future growth, ensuring the infrastructure could support new advanced technologies and integrations.
